Action Adventure Thriller - This is a very bloody, very violent all-star throwback to hard-R
action films of the 1980s. A few of the name stars here, such as Bruce
Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, only appear in brief cameos, but
fans of the main stars Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham will have
plenty to savor here, as will action fans. Language and extreme
violence make the film inappropriate for kids.
OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 135 moviegoers:
TEENS:Nearly all the males loved "The Expendables." Most gave it very high reviews with just a few rating it somewhat low. The female reviews are also great. They also loved this movie.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:Great reviews from the males! Most absolutely loved "The Expendables." Only a small percentage rated it low. The female reviews are very good, but not quite great. For such a "guy" movie, I would say these are pretty good reviews from the ladies.
ADULTS:Great reviews from both the males and females! Approximately half loved "The Expendables" and most of the rest enjoyed it very much. Only a few rated it average, which is a little on the low side.
The only life they've known is war. The only loyalty they have is to each other.
They are the Expendables: leader and mastermind Barney Ross (Stallone), former SAS blade expert Lee Christmas (Statham), hand-to-hand combat specialist Yin Yang (Li), long barrel weapons specialist Hale Caesar (Crews), demolitions expert Toll Road (Couture), and precision sniper Gunnar Jensen (Lundgren). Living life in the fringes of the law, these hardened mercenaries take on what appears to be a routine assignment: a covert, CIA-funded operation to infiltrate the South American country of Vilena and overthrow its ruthless dictator General Garza (David Zayas). But when their job is revealed to be a suicide mission, the men are faced with a deadly choice, one that might redeem their souls…or destroy their brotherhood forever.
