In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town set out to make a zombie movie. While shooting their Super 8 film, they witness a catastrophic train crash and, after barely escaping themselves, they soon discover that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town and local Deputy Jackson Lamb tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
Mystery Sci-Fi Thriller - This is a science fiction adventure film aimed at young adults. While the main characters are middle school-aged, the profanity and some drug humor may give some parents pause. Some action sequences may be too intense for children. While being sold as a big blockbuster action fest, aside from a couple of big scenes this is a much more small scale film than most summer films.

Roger EbertFull Review Very Good 'Super 8' is a wonderful film, nostalgia not for a time but for a style of filmmaking, when shell-shocked young audiences were told a story and not pounded over the head with aggressive action.
USA TodayFull Review Very Good Super 8 packs the emotional punch of vintage Steven Spielberg with the spectacular effects and sense of mystery at which writer/director J.J. Abrams excels.
Washington PostFull Review Above Average 'Super 8' succeeds best as a valentine to first movies, first loves and the enchantment that ensues when they intersect.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 145 moviegoers:
CHILDREN:Great reviews from the five kids.
TEENS:The females really loved "Super 8," giving it very high reviews. A third of the males loved it but half rated it "Very Good," which equals above average. That's a good but not great review, especially from teen males.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:The male reviews are great with over three-quarters loving it and the rest enjoying it very much. The female reviews are very good but not quite great. There are too many average and above average reviews and too few very high reviews.
ADULTS:The male and female reviews are very similar. Approximately half loved it and many more enjoyed it very much. As with most movies, there are some who only rated it as average with a few rating it below average.
