Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Animated Action Comedy - This sequel to the popular animated film is a bit more like a loose spinoff as it focuses on the supporting character of tow truck Mater and is a spy action film. As such, there's a bit more action violence than the first film, but it is still appropriate for the child and family audience. Fans of Owen Wilson may be disappointed by his very diminished role.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Above Average Cars 2 provides a passable two hours, although its value lies more in providing a bonding opportunity for parents and children than in what's on screen.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Very Good Anyway, "Cars 2" is fun. Whether that's because John Lasseter is in touch with his inner child or mine, I cannot say.

USA Today Full Review
Above Average It's not that it's a bad film. But the bar is high, and it's lackluster and predictable, missing that alchemic blend of humor, pathos and indelible characters that give Pixar movies their brilliant shine.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 145 moviegoers:
OUTSTANDING REVIEWS! All ages, both males and females, LOVED "CARS 2." Kids obviously rated it very high but the adult reviews are also quite high for an animated kids movie. "Cars" obviously has something for everyone. Take the whole family to see "Cars 2."

D ETAILED S TORYLINE
Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world's fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Mater finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British super spy Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) and the stunning rookie field spy Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer). Mater's action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world.
