A year after his father died in the World Trade Center on what Oskar calls "The Worst Day," he is determined to keep his vital connection to the man who playfully cajoled him into confronting his wildest fears. Now, as Oskar crosses the five New York boroughs in quest of the missing lock - encountering an eclectic assortment of people who are each survivors in their own way - he begins to uncover unseen links to the father he misses, to the mother who seems so far away from him and to the whole noisy, dangerous, discombobulating world around him.
Drama - This is a serious drama centered around the 9/11 tragedy. Top-billed
stars Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock actually have supporting roles, for
the lead is young newcomer Thomas Horn; other recognizable faces have
very small roles. Although the main character is a young boy, the
subject matter is much too intense for young kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Very Good Daldry comes close to the "sweet spot" - he touches the heart without revolting the mind.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average While flawed and sometimes overwrought, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close's tale of the effect of 9/11 on a sensitive boy is worth seeing, particularly for its lead performance.
NY PostFull Review Poor 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' pulls out all the stops trying to put the audience through the emotional wringer.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 174 moviegoers:
CHILDREN:Great reviews from kids for this type of movie. I'm pretty sure these reviews are from older kids since this movie would probably not keep the interest of young children.
TEENS:All five males rated it very high. The female reviews are also very high, except for a few who were disappointed.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:One male loved it and one rated it average. A third of the females loved it, another third rated it above average and the last third rated it below average.
ADULTS:Great reviews from both males and females. Just over half loved it. Most of the rest rated it above average, which indicates a movie they enjoyed very much. Only a very small percentage rated it a bit on the low side.
