Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Good Designed as a family film based on the memoirs of Benjamin Mee, We Bought a Zoo is heartfelt but safe.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Above Average Cameron Crowe has made wonderful films, but here the pieces go together too easily, the plot is too inevitable, and we feel little real energy between the players.

USA Today Full Review
Above Average We Bought a Zoo doesn't seem to know what kind of animal it is.

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 166 moviegoers:
Great Reviews! Males and females of all ages enjoyed "We Bought a Zoo," very much with many loving it. When the lowest reviews are "Good," and they make up only a very small percentage, it's easy to HIGHLY RECOMMEND "WE BOUGHT A ZOO."

D ETAILED S TORYLINE
Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon) is a Los Angeles newspaper columnist and adventure writer who, as a single father, faces the challenges of raising his two young kids. Hoping that a fresh start and a new life will restore their family spirit, Mee quits his job and buys an old rural house on 18 acres outside the city that comes with a unique bonus feature: a zoo named the Rosemoor Animal Park, where dozens of animals reside under the care of head zookeeper Kelly Foster (Scarlett Johansson) and her dedicated team.

With no experience, limited time and a shoestring budget, Mee sets out with the support of his family and the local community to reopen the zoo. Now, Benjamin is no longer reporting an adventure story; he's living his own…and it is right in his own backyard.
