The story of everyday heroes rising above extraordinary challenges. Inspired by the heroics and valor of the first all-African American aerial combat unit, the film follows the Tuskegee Airmen as they shatter all doubts and prejudices with excellence in the air and on the ground.
Action Adventure Drama - While about the actual African-American combat unit in WWII, this is
not a really heavy historical drama so much as a period action
adventure film. The most known stars in the cast, Cuba Gooding Jr.
and Terrence Howard, have small parts compared the lesser known
younger cast. War violence and language makes the film inappropriate
for young children, but the history-based story will make this a go-to
film for families with older pre-teen children.
PROFANITY: 6 S-words; 3 GD's, many other mild profanitiess. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Burns and bloody shootings. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Alcohol and tobacco. ACTION: Many aerial combat sequences; explosions. COMEDY: Some banter and wisecracks.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average 'Red Tails' is entertaining. Audiences are likely to enjoy it. The scenes of aerial combat are skillfully done and exciting.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average During its scenes of aerial combat, Red Tails offers swooping excitement from a pilot's eye view, but that promise turns leaden when the planes touch ground.
Entertainment WeeklyFull Review Below Average These sequences are all swoop, boom and rat-tat-tat - until some character opens his mouth to utter a line so stilted that it could have drawn giggles in 1946.
