The story of a woman passing herself as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland. Some thirty years after donning men's clothing, she finds herself trapped in a prison of her own making.
Drama - This indie period drama is a major showcase for Glenn Close, who also
co-wrote the script and an end credits song. This is aimed at older
adults, who will have the patience for the slow pace. Language, some
sexual content, and adult themes make the film inappropriate for
children, who would not be interested anyhow.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average Albert Nobbs' greatest strength and weakness relate to the title character, whose passivity and emotional blankness make him an intriguing study in repression but a difficult focal point.
Roger EbertFull Review Good My heart went out to Albert Nobbs, the depth of whose fears are unimaginable.
