Storyline Heading
The story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter, who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris. In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Action Adventure - This is an effects-heavy science fiction adventure based on the popular and influential book series, and those unfamiliar with the books may have difficulty understanding the complex mythology and terminology. As such, while heavy on effects, creatures, and action, kids may have trouble understanding it all. Young adult males are the target, and the more recognizable names in the cast such as Willem Dafoe play unrecognizable alien creatures. Some violence and scary moments may be too intense for very young children.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Good John Carter is one of those rare movies that, during its watching, delivers the same sense of adventure.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Above Average The action sequences are generally well-executed, but they're too much of a muchness. CGI makes them seem too facile and not tactile enough.

USA Today Full Review
Average ...is ambitious, it's also bloated, dreary and humorless. It's tedious even during its frantic action scenes, many of which also involve computer-generation and performance-capture technology.

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Based on a theater exit polling of 44 moviegoers:
I was extremely surprised at the very low turnout for this movie. We struggled to collect these 44 reviews.
CHILDREN:All three loved it.
TEENS:Great reviews from the teens. Nearly all loved it.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:Great reviews from both the males and females.
ADULTS:Approximately half the males loved "John Carter." Another quarter enjoyed it very much, with the last quarter rating it good/average, which is decent but a bit low. Most of the ladies rated it above average, with another large chunk rating it good/average.
