Pirate Captain sets out on a mission to defeat his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz for the Pirate of the year Award. The quest takes Captain and his crew from the shores of Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London.
Animated Adventure - This is a stop-motion animated feature aimed at the whole family,
it is not strictly kids' stuff. Adult animation fans of works such
Wallace and Gromit will appreciate the animation and comedy style.
Being a British production, the humor is often of a more dry and
mature style and not necessarily kid-focused. Hugh Grant and other
actors voice the main characters while non-British stars such as
Hayek and Jeremy Piven voice more secondary characters.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good Nevertheless, seen from almost any vantage point, this is the most enjoyable pirate movie since the first of Gore Verbinski's live-action tales featuring Cap'n Jack Sparrow.
USA TodayFull Review Very Good The buccaneers in The Pirates! Band of Misfits may be far more ragtag than swashbuckling, but the film is sure-footed, witty and zany fun.
Entertainment WeeklyFull Review Above Average Like many Aardman films, "The Pirates!" is awash with silliness. There are far more fleeting visual jokes than one can possibly digest in a single viewing.

The luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain - a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It's a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!
