Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for the comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent - Madagascar style.
Animated Adventure Comedy - Like the first two films, this is an animated comedy aimed at the
whole family. The main cast of lion, zebra, giraffe, and hippo are
back, again voiced by Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, and
Jada Pinkett Smith. The target audience are kids and families though
there is some adult appeal. Some mildly crude humor gives the film
its PG rating; it's safe viewing for children on the whole.
PROFANITY: None. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Comic hits and falls; shots with darts. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: None. ACTION: Chases on foot, by car, in the air. COMEDY: Slapstick, banter, wisecracks, one crude sight gag.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Average It's sad to see all the technical expertise evident in the visual aspects of this movie wasted in service of such a derivative and fundamentally unsatisfying experience.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average Madagascar's third go-round is hardly fresh, but it never stints on energy or vivid colors.
Washington PostFull Review Very Good What's really surprising about 'Madagascar 3' is just how moving it ultimately is, largely because of the emotionally engaging character animation.

(Ben Stiller), Marty (Chris Rock), Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Melman (David
Schwimmer) are determined to make their way back to The Central Park Zoo in New
York City. Leaving Africa behind, they've taken a detour and surfaced, quite
literally, in Europe — on a hunt for the penguins and chimps who have managed to
break the bank of a Monte Carlo casino. Soon the animals are discovered by
dogged French animal control officer Capitaine Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand)
who does not appreciate zoo animals running wild in her city and is thrilled by
the idea of hunting her first lion! The Zoosters find the perfect cover in a
down-and-out traveling circus where they hatch a plan to reinvent the circus,
discover a few new talents and make it home to New York alive.
