Storyline Heading
Kay and Arnold are a devoted couple, but decades of marriage have left Kay wanting to spice things up and reconnect with her husband. When she hears of a renowned couple's specialist in the small town of Great Hope Springs, she attempts to persuade her skeptical husband, a steadfast man of routine, to get on a plane for a week of marriage therapy. Just convincing the stubborn Arnold to go on the retreat is hard enough - the real challenge for both of them comes as they shed their bedroom hang-ups and try to re-ignite the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place.

Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Comedy Drama - Despite what the trailers and advertising make this out to be, this is not a light comedy but mostly a fairly serious relationship drama with some comedic moments and lines. This is also basically a two-character piece for Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones, with Steve Carell having a very small supporting role and other recognizable faces such as Elisabeth Shue and Mimi Rogers having cameos. Older viewers, particularly women, are the target. Clinical sex talk and some suggestive humor make this film for adults.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Good Hope Springs offers a serious look at the problems of intimacy that creep into many long-term relationships but does so with a comedic edge.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Good 'Hope Springs' isn't a great film and doesn't take any chances, except with this casting decision.

USA Today Full Review
Average Halfhearted both comically and dramatically, Hope Springs sidesteps emotional truths in favor of predictable, unfunny gags.
