Dredd is the ultimate Judge and he is challenged with getting rid of a dangerous drug epidemic. He is assigned to train a rookie with powerful abilities when they are called to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture. They go up again a prostitute turned drug lord and her ruthless clan.
Action Sci-Fi - This is another live action film version of the comic book character
once played by Sylvester Stallone in 1995, but this is a much
bloodier, brutal, and generally all-around harder film than that one.
Constant bloody violence, language, and drug use make this film much
too intense for kids. Fans of stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, and
Lena Headey will enjoy though Urban is never seen without a helmet.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good Unlike many post-apocalyptic scenarios, the one presented in Dredd offers sufficient glimpses of a dystopian future without overselling the dark, ugly miseries of this future.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average While not for the squeamish, Dredd 3D is an effectively gritty B movie accentuated by stylish visuals and irreverent humor.
Entertainment WeeklyFull Review Good 'Dredd 3D' is malicious, gory, masochistic and uncompromising. But it caters to its base like a presidential candidate on the campaign trail.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 16 moviegoers:
I don't understand why this movie didn't pull in much of a crowd, but we were only able to collect 16 reviews from several showings.
TEENS:The two females and one male all loved "Dredd."
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:The two females loved it but only half the males rated it high with some hating it. Unfortunately, there really aren't enough reviews here to be very accurate. I believe, if there were more reviews they would show that most enjoyed "Dredd" very much. To me it was exactly what I expected, LOTS and LOTS of action and blood.
ADULTS:Two of the three females rated it above average and one rated it average. No male reviews were collected.
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from
Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One - a vast, violent metropolis where
criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban
cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant
executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the
ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a
dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a
fraction of its normal speed.
During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate
Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities
thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where
fellow Judges rarely dare to venture - a 200 story vertical slum controlled by
prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they
capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control
center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will
stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way
out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless
battle for their survival.
