A struggling screenwriter inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu.
Comedy Crime - While as violent as its title suggests, this film is on the whole a
comedy, albeit a dark one. Males, in particular young adult ones,
are the target here, and the male stars such as Colin Farrell, Sam
Rockwell, and Christopher Walken dominating the run time while the
female stars having a minimal presence. Constant language and
violence make the film inappropriate for kids.
PROFANITY: Well over 30 F-words; 16 S-words; 1 GD; many others. SEX/NUDITY: Brief sex and unrelated nudity. VIOLENCE: Bloody shootings, stabbings, slashings, killings. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Tobacco, peyote, and frequent alcohol, including while driving. ACTION: Some shootouts. COMEDY: Banter and wisecracks, mostly darkly humorous; sight gags.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average Had Seven Psychopaths been able to maintain its initial tone and energy level throughout, it would have been a compelling and memorable experience.
Roger EbertFull Review Very Good ...this is a delightfully goofy, self-aware movie that knows it is a movie.
Washington PostFull Review Average Sam Rockwell delivers a soaring, scene-stealing performance as a verbose criminal low-life in 'Seven Psychopaths,' a toxic little bauble of Hollywood gestures, cliches and tropes.
