Notes:
Looking for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, a charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star gets roped into coaching the boy's soccer team. But his attempts to finally become an "adult" are met with hilarious challenges from the attractive "soccer moms" who pursue him at every turn.
.
Comedy Romantic - This is a romantic comedy-drama with a family-oriented father-son
element as well as some mild raunchiness. Fans of stars Gerard Butler
and Jessica Biel will have plenty so savor, but other recognizable
stars such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman, and Dennis Quaid have
much smaller roles. Suggestive humor and language make the film
inappropriate for kids despite a large kid presence.
PROFANITY: 16 S-words; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Some fighting; a violent movie is briefly seen. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Alcohol. ACTION: Some soccer action. COMEDY: Comic lines and banter, sometimes suggestive; cute kid humor.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Average Although not horrible in the way that truly bad films are horrible, it doesn't do much right.
Roger EbertFull Review Average So that's good for something, in a film that's pretty much from the assembly line.
USA TodayFull Review Below Average But the sappy plot of this formulaic romantic comedy is just as silly as its inane attempts at farce.
Washington PostFull Review Poor A dreary, dismally unfunny excuse for a romantic comedy, 'Playing for Keeps' is an undistinguished, impact-free watch-checker that will soon be vaguely distracting transatlantic travelers who forgot to carry on their iPads.
