Notes:
After years of marriage, Pete lives in a house of all females: wife Debbie and their two daughters, eight-year-old Charlotte and 13-year-old Sadie. As he struggles to keep his record label afloat, he and Debbie must figure out how to forgive, forget and enjoy the rest of their lives... before they kill each other. In his fourth directorial outing, Judd Apatow's new comedy captures what it takes for one family to flourish in the middle of a lifetime together. We follow one couple's three-week navigation of sex and romance, career triumphs and financial hardships, aging parents and maturing children.

Comedy - This spin-off of Knocked Up is in line with that film and all
of writer/director Judd Apatow's work: often raunchy humor, some
dramatic elements, and a run time over two hours. Fans of stars Paul
Rudd and Leslie Mann will be pleased by this big showcase though fans
of Knocked Up may be disappointed that the leads of that film
do not appear. While two children play prominent roles, constant
language, raunchy humor, and adult subject matter make the film
inappropriate for kids.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good And, although This is 40 is too long and at times over-the-top, its essence is grounded in everyday moments and emotions that will have viewers nodding with understanding and recognition.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average There are moments of perception and sweetness, as per usual with Apatow movies. It's just too bad the movie's trajectory is formless and jokes built around petty marital resentments sometimes fall flat.
Washington PostFull Review Average 'This Is 40' is a good-faith effort at a wry and realistic relationship comedy. But the sad thing is that those outtakes are the funniest thing about it.
NY PostFull Review Below Average Because no one could be as whiny, spoiled, tasteless, combative and reliant on annoying stand-up comedy riffs as the entire cast of this film, the most disappointing one of the year.

TEENS:The one female loved "This is 40."
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:The male and female reviews are as mixed as the reviews from the critics. One male loved it, one rated it above average and one rated it below average. The lone female only rated it as an average movie.
ADULTS:Half the males loved "This is 40." The other half were equally split between an average movie to a poor movie. The female reviews are considerably better. A third loved it and another half rated it as a movie they enjoyed very much ("Very Good"). just a few rated it "Poor." The very raunchy nature of this movie likely contributed to these lower reviews.
