Notes:
Maria, Henry and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in tropical paradise. But on the morning of December 26th, as the family relaxes around the pool after their Christmas festivities the night before, a terrifying roar rises up from the center of the earth. As Maria freezes in fear, a huge wall of black water races across the hotel grounds toward her.
Based on a true story, this is the unforgettable account of a family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time. But the true-life terror is tempered by the unexpected displays of compassion, courage and simple kindness that Maria and her family encounter during the darkest hours of their lives.

Drama - This is a fact-based drama based on one family's story during the
tsunami disaster in Asia. While language is at a minimum, there
are some intense moments of suffering and violence caused by the
natural disaster. While top-billed Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor
do have substantial roles, the true lead is young actor Tom
Holland. The film is too intense for young children, but the
family-affirming themes will make this fairly safe viewing for
families with pre-teens.
PROFANITY: 3 miscellaneous profanities. SEX/NUDITY: Fleeting non-sexual nudity. VIOLENCE: Hits, stabs, and throws in a storm; bloody wounds. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol. ACTION: One very intense tsunami sequence. COMEDY: Some cute kid humor.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good More than 200,000 lost their lives as a result of the earthquake and tsunami and The Impossible never forgets this. It is, above all, respectful of the enormity of the tragedy.
Roger EbertFull Review Excellent It is a mark of great acting in a film when it succeeds in accomplishing what it must precisely when it is required. 'The Impossible' is one of the best films of the year.
Washington PostFull Review Good It's not a momentous story about heroism writ large, but an intimate tale of the small acts of kindness and connection that can occur when people are most desperate.
NY PostFull Review Good 'The Impossible'' is worth checking out for the acting and effects,...
