Notes:
In the future, Earth is occupied by a species who erase the minds of their human hosts, leaving their bodies intact. Melanie Stryder is one of the last surviving humans who fights back, risking her life for the people she cares about most -- Jared, Ian, her brother Jamie and her Uncle Jeb -- proving that love can conquer all.
.
Sci-Fi Romantic - Like the other film based on a Stephenie Meyer novel,
Twilight, this is a young adult-targeted film that is less
about the genre (in this case, science fiction) than it is a
youth-oriented romance. The target is teen and young women. Fans of
young lead Saoirse Ronan will be pleased, with more familiar older
stars such as William Hurt and Diane Kruger in smaller supporting
roles. Some violence and mild sensuality may be too much for parents
of young children.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Below Average The Host is just one long slog with a minimal payoff.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average 'The Host' is top-heavy with profound, sonorous conversations, all tending to sound like farewells. The movie is so consistently pitched at the same note, indeed, that the structure robs it of possibilities for dramatic tension.
Washington PostFull Review Below Average It's a mushy and unsuspenseful melodrama.
NY PostFull Review Poor 'The Host,' on the other hand, is pretty consistently empty-headed throughout.

Watching" write-up for this movie.
Moviegoer Opinions:
Based on a theater exit polling of 75 moviegoers:
CHILDREN:Five of the seven children loved "The Host." The other two rated it average.
TEENS:The male reviews are mixed. Just over half enjoyed it very much with most of them indicating they loved it. Unfortunately, nearly half only rated it "Good/Average," which is a mediocre review, especially coming from teen males reviewing a sci-fi movie. The females rated "The Host" much higher. Nearly all of them loved it.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:Three of the four males loved it but the fourth one didn't enjoy it. Three of the four females loved it and the fourth one enjoyed it very much.
ADULTS:Eight of the ten males rated "The Host" very high with most loving it. The females didn't care as much for it as the males. Only about two-thirds enjoyed it very much or loved it. A full third only rated it as an average movie.
