Notes:
When Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot -- fame and fortune are his for the taking -- that is until he meets three witches, Theodora, Evanora and Glinda, who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity -- and even a bit of wizardry -- Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.

Fantasy Adventure - This is a family-targeted fantasy film that tells the backstory of
The Wizard of Oz. Like that classic film, there are some scary
images and moments that may be intense for very young children, but on
the whole this effects-heavy film is a very all ages-friendly film.
Fans of the stars will enjoy this solid showcase for them.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average 'Oz the Great and Powerful' finally breaks free of its beautiful but artificial trappings and becomes a story with heart in the final act.
USA TodayFull Review Good The new spinoff from L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz may not be great, exactly, but it is powerfully entertaining.
Washington PostFull Review Poor Aside from some lyrical moments early on when flames and birds dart out of the sides of the frame, 3-D technology adds little to an underwhelming endeavor.
NY PostFull Review Poor Under the circumstances, the dim images resulting from wearing 3-D glasses is almost a blessing.
