Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Thriller - This is a twisty, twisted psychological thriller with some science fiction overtones. This film definitely requires full attention as its shifts between fantasy and reality could be confusing. Violent and sexual content as well as language make the film inappropriate for kids. Fans of the three stars should very much enjoy.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Above Average "Trance" is an intriguing movie and worth seeing for those who appreciate films that (mess) with the viewer's mind. The movie has limited mainstream appeal and its lack of character definition left me feeling as if the glass was half-empty.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Good ...if you can look past the sputtering conclusion — or the pseudo-intellectual banter about memory, modern art, and other assorted nonsense — what you'll find is a brisk, breezy, style-heavy crime flick that happens to be one of the most purely entertaining movies Boyle has made in a long time.

USA Today Full Review
Above Average ...the dazzling style of this labyrinthine psychological thriller makes the viewer long for more substance. The film descends into extreme and seemingly gratuitous violence, rendering this hallucinatory heist thriller more off-putting than mesmerizing.

NY Post Full Review
Very Good This exhilarating brain-twister is a nonstop visual, aural and intellectual delight, steeped in movie conventions and yet fizzing with freshness. It's what happens when film noir goes out to a rave.

D ETAILED S TORYLINE
Simon (James McAvoy), a fine art auctioneer, teams up with a criminal gang to steal a Goya painting worth millions of dollars. After suffering a blow to the head during the heist, he awakens to discover he has no memory of where he hid the painting. When physical threats and torture fail to produce answers, the gang's leader Franck (Vincent Cassel) hires hypnotherapist Elizabeth Lamb (Rosario Dawson) to delve into the darkest recesses of Simon's psyche. As Elizabeth begins to unravel Simon's broken subconscious, the line between truth, suggestion, and deceit begin to blur.
