Storyline Heading
A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige and his legendary father Cypher stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Action Sci-Fi - This science fiction adventure is a starring vehicle more for Jaden Smith than his superstar father Will, who has a co-starring role. This is mainly a two-character piece, and the pace is a bit slower and the film less of a big action film than one may expect. Some scary moments and images and some violence make the film too intense for young children, but overall it should be safe for pre-teens.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Poor The sad truth about After Earth is that not only is it difficult to find things it does well, but there are numerous examples of outright incompetence dotting the landscape.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Very Good 'After Earth' carries itself with confidence because it knows what it wants to say, and how to say it.

USA Today Full Review
Average Though it's meant to be pulse-pounding, After Earth is a lethargic slog.

NY Post Full Review
Poor And so is avoiding the crashing bore that is "After Earth.''
