Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Horror - While rated R, this period-set horror film is not graphically violent nor heavy on language, but it earns the rating for so consistently scary and intense. Unlike a lot of modern horror, there is very little in the way of elaborate effects. The film is much too scary and intense for children. Fans of the lead actors will have plenty to savor here.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Very Good The Conjuring offers the right mix of jump-scare "boo!" moments and mounting tension that creates an intense two hours.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Poor 'The Conjuring' is like getting a tour of a haunted house attraction from someone that pushes, and pulls you through every room.

USA Today Full Review
Good The net result is an entertainingly frightening film that keeps the audience in a state of alarmed, but eager, anticipation.

Entertainment Weekly Full Review
Good 'The Conjuring' is one heck of a ghost story.

NY Post Full Review
Good 'The Conjuring'' depends more on its excellent cast and atmospheric direction than cheap gimmicks to raise hairs on the back of your neck. Which it does, quite frequently.

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 42 moviegoers:
TEENS:Both the males and females LOVED "THE CONJURING." For this type of movie these are outstanding reviews. Horror/scary movies rarely have such a high percentage of very high reviews. Even more astonishing is the lack of any bad reviews.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:None
ADULTS:Over half the males loved "The Conjuring." Only about a fifth rated it below average to poor. The female reviews show that just over half enjoyed it very much with about a third loving it. Most of the rest rated it good/average. Just a tiny percentage didn't enjoy it. For a horror movie, these male and female reviews are very good.
