Storyline Heading
THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan's summer vacation with his mother, Pam, her overbearing boyfriend, Trent, and his daughter, Steph. Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen, manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world - all during a summer he will never forget.

Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Comedy - Although there are a number of recognizable faces in this film such as Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Sam Rockwell, AnnaSophia Robb, and Maya Rudolph, the lead of this indie comedy-drama is young newcomer Liam James. Although the film does focus on a teenage protagonist, this is more of a comedy for adult audiences. Language, suggestive humor, and some drug content make the film not one for kids.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Very Good It's funny, affecting, and appealing, and more worthy than much of what's out there.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Good The revelation, though, is James, who gives a performance of such naturalistic unease that just describing his screen presence is making me anxious.
