In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max, an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission -- one that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt and her hard-line forces -- but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
Sci-Fi Action Adventure - Like writer/director Neill Blomkamp's District 9, this is a
science fiction thriller with some strong political allegory though
this film is a bit more action oriented. Fans of Matt Damon and
Jodie Foster should be pleased though some other recognizable faces
like Diego Luna have much smaller parts. Constant language and
bloody violence make the film inappropriate for kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good Elysium is a thoroughly entertaining science fiction/action spectacle...
USA TodayFull Review Good With its scorched Earth and brave new world themes, Elysium is decidedly more thought-provoking than most big-studio summer fare.
NY PostFull Review Below Average I found both movies plodding and stultifying, with their steady streams of ker-blammo covering up their slow pace, their silly posturing, their thin characters and their creaky plot mechanics.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 100 moviegoers:
TEENS:The three males enjoyed "ELYSIUM" very much with two loving it. Seven of the nine females also loved it. The two remaining females rated it average.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:Just over half the males loved it with the rest indicating they enjoyed it very much. The female reviews aren't very good. Since the other female reviews are considerably better I suspect that these lower reviews are a fluke. I would suggest that you refer to the adult female reviews for guidance.
ADULTS:About half the males loved "ELYSIUM." Close to another quarter rated it above average, indicating they enjoyed it very much. The remaining reviews are a bit on the low side indicating an average movie (enjoyable but nothing special). The female reviews are similar to the male reviews except there are more above average reviews and fewer very high reviews.
