Adventure Comedy Animated - While being advertised as being part of the world of Cars, no
characters from either of those films nor mentions of events from
those films are in this animated comedy. The target audience for
this underdog race story very young children, which this film is
appropriate for despite the PG rating for some mild violence.
Roger EbertFull Review Average However, if you adjust expectations accordingly and watch the film through the mindset of a child, the minimalism of "Planes" might feel like a refreshing change of pace from the recent onslaught of loud CG spectacles.
NY PostFull Review Above Average Often less really is more, and that's why I can recommend "Planes,'' a charmingly modest low-budget spin-off from Pixar's "Cars'' that provides more thrills and laughs for young children and their parents than many of its more elaborate brethren.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 85 moviegoers:
CHILDREN:As expected, nearly all the children LOVED "PLANES."
TEENS:The three males loved it.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS:The one male loved it. Three females rated it above average and one rated it average. There aren't really enough reviews in this group to be accurate. I would suggest that you look at the adult reviews for guidance.
ADULTS:Nearly half the males loved "PLANES." Most of the rest rated it above average, which indicates a movie they enjoyed very much. A few of the males rated it just average. The female reviews are GREAT! All but a few LOVED "PLANES." Two-thirds of the remaining few rated it above average.
Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) is a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty's not exactly built for racing--and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty's courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.
