A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a
peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land.
Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal -- an act
that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the
invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child
grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom -- and perhaps to
Maleficent's true happiness as well.
Fantasy Action Adventure - This is a live action take on Disney's animated classic Sleeping
Beauty but with the focus on the villainess. Angelina Jolie fans
will enjoy this huge showcase for the star while Elle Fanning fans
may be disappointed how the princess plays a secondary role. Some
scary and dark images and action sequences may be too intense for the
youngest of children.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good The marriage between the actress' capabilities and the director's experience results in a satisfying and successful motion picture.
Roger EbertFull Review Good The movie is a mess, but it's a rich mess. It has weight. It matters.
USA TodayFull Review Average Disney missed a golden opportunity to tell a bewitching story and instead gives audiences a muddled revisionist tale with stunning visuals.
Entertainment WeeklyFull Review Above Average Unfortunately, the story is more than a bit of a muddle, a string of sequences that shuttle the characters back and forth between the film's sole two locations...
NY PostFull Review Average For all the CGI noise around Jolie, her central performance here is still a gloriously cinematic happily-ever-after.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 71 moviegoers:
GREAT REVIEWS! All ages, both males and females, enjoyed "Maleficent." Over half of all groups indicated that they loved it. Approximately twenty-percent more indicated it was an "above average" movie. Unfortunately, there were twenty-percent, or so, that only felt it was an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable).
