Set in the near-future UK, Daisy is an American teenager sent to stay with relatives in the English countryside. Initially withdrawn and alienated, she begins to warm up to her charming surroundings, and strikes up a romance with the handsome Edmund. But on the fringes of their idyllic summer days are tense news reports of an escalating conflict in Europe. When a nuclear device is detonated, the UK falls into a violent, chaotic military state, and Daisy finds herself hiding and fighting to survive.
Thriller - While based on a young adult novel with sci-fi/fantasy elements and a
strong love story, this is not like Twilight nor The
Host (which also starred this film's lead, Saoirse Ronan), but
something that's far grittier and darker. Strong language and
violence and sexuality makes the film far less kid-friendly than
PROFANITY: 17 F-words, 5 S-words, 1 GD, a few others. SEX/NUDITY: Brief sex without nudity. VIOLENCE: Brutal beatings and bloody shootings. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some tobacco. ACTION: Chases and explosions. COMEDY: Some cute kid humor.
