Jupiter Jones was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine, a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along-her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.
Sci-Fi Adventure Action - This is a very effects-heavy science fiction action-adventure with a
lot of strange ideas and visuals. Mila Kunis is the main character,
not Channing Tatum, though he does have a large role; Eddie Redmayne
fans will enjoy his villainous turns here. Language, brief sexual
content, some intense
bizarre visuals make the film not for children.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average One can throw many criticisms at Jupiter Ascending but it's never boring. It is, however, occasionally unfocused, sometimes confusing, and saddled with a too-predictable ending. Jupiter Ascending may have enough energy and razzle-dazzle to compensate for some of its deficiencies but there are a few too many of them to lift the film out of the decaying orbit into which it enters.
Roger EbertFull Review Average For all its noise and color, "Jupiter Ascending" looks, sounds and moves too much like every other sci-fi or fantasy adventure you've seen in the aftermath of the "Matrix" and "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" trilogies and "Star Wars" prequels.
USA TodayFull Review Below Average Jupiter Ascending is a sharp descent for everyone involved. The story is laughably inane and uninvolving. A ridiculous intergalactic action-adventure... Jupiter is a convoluted, design-happy space opera whose special effects are underwhelming and whose story grows ever more absurd as it goes along.
Entertainment WeeklyFull Review Above Average Jupiter Ascending's early cleverness dries up quickly, especially when Kunis is offscreen, leaving us with just another incoherent sci-fi spectacle. (Note: Even though this critic rated it Above Average, I couldn't find any positive things they said about it.)

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 103 moviegoers:
TEENS: Great Reviews from the females and Very Good reviews from the males. Half the males loved "Jupiter Ascending" with another 30% indicating they enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, just over 20% felt it was only an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable).
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: One male loved it, one enjoyed it very much and one indicated that he hated it. Three females loved it and another three rated it "average." The seventh female hated it.
ADULTS: The male and female reviews are very similar. They show that about half loved "Jupiter Ascending." Another 20% rated it "above average." Unfortunately, 20% to 30% felt it was only an "average" movie, which isn't a bad review, it's just a bit disappointing. A small percentage actually indicated that they hated this movie. I suspect these moviegoers don't like this type of movie but came to it with someone who does like this type of movie.
