An undercover cop tries to take down a ruthless crime lord with access to a neutron bomb by infiltrating his gang.
Action Drama - This action thriller is a remake of the French cult hit District
13, with one of the original stars, David Belle, reprising his
role. This is a buddy action film with him and the late Paul Walker,
whose fans will enjoy this, one of his final roles. While rated
PG-13, there is a fair amount of intense violence and language, so
parents of young children should be warned.
PROFANITY: 2 F-words; over 30 S-woerds; a number of others. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Fights, hits, falls, shootings with moderate blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Alcohol and tobacco. ACTION: Fights, chases, explosions. COMEDY: Some comic lines.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Below Average There's no fun to be had here and if an action movie doesn't make the grade as escapist entertainment, what's the point? If the filmmakers had really wanted to honor Walker's memory, a better move might have been to bury Brick Mansions with him rather than letting this misfire see the light of day.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average The action may be serious, but "Brick Mansions" doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a ridiculous movie that has the decency to acknowledge that it's ridiculous.
USA TodayFull Review Above Average Seeing Paul Walker's handsome face in his last complete film and watching him fuse acrobatic moves with low-key humor, vulnerability and charm is the best reason to see "Brick Mansions." Watching how well he comes off in this fairly ridiculous action flick naturally invites conjecture about what level of stardom he might have achieved had he not been tragically killed in a car accident...
