Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Comedy - This is a female-driven buddy road movie that will please fans of stars Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon. While there is a fair amount of crude humor as suggested by the advertising campaign, there is also a surprising bit of warmth and heart. Other known stars such as Kathy Bates, Sandra Oh, and Dan Aykroyd only turn up in small roles. Constant language, suggestive humor, and adult themes make the film not for kids.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Average Tammy is a road trip movie and, like many road trip movies, it embraces a meandering, aimless tone.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Above Average But while Tammy herself is a meandering mess with no real purpose in life, there's clearly a good heart beneath the disheveled exterior.

USA Today Full Review
Below Average Tammy's story is thin, cringe-inducing and, worst of all for a comedy, not funny. Jokes land with a thud and the pacing is leaden.

Entertainment Weekly Full Review
Good But because Tammy is cowritten and played by Melissa McCarthy, it's a broad, helter-skelter farce whose best bits hinge almost entirely on the considerable charms of its star.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 114 moviegoers:
TEENS: All the males and three-quarters of the females LOVED "TAMMY." The remaining ladies felt it was an "average" movie.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: Half the males rated it "above average" and half rated it just "average." About 20% of the females loved "Tammy" with another 20% rating it "above average." Unfortunately, nearly 60% only felt it was an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable).
ADULTS: The male reviews aren't great but they're also not terrible. Only about 10% indicated that they loved "Tammy." Luckily, about 40% enjoyed it very much rating it "above average." Unfortunately, almost half felt it was just an "average" to "below average" movie. The female reviews are quite a bit better. Thirty-percent loved "Tammy" and 40% more enjoyed it very much rating it "above average." Only about 25% rated it as low as "average."

D ETAILED S TORYLINE
Tammy (McCarthy) is having a bad day. She's totaled her clunker car, gotten fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint, and instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbor in her own house.

It's time to take her boom box and book it. The bad news is she's broke and without wheels. The worse news is her grandma, Pearl (Sarandon), is her only option-with a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Not exactly the escape Tammy had in mind. But on the road, with grandma riding shot gun, it may be just what Tammy needs.
