An intense international thriller, NO ESCAPE centers on an American businessman as he and his family settle into their new home in Southeast Asia. Suddenly finding themselves in the middle of a violent political uprising, they must frantically look for a safe escape as rebels mercilessly attack the city.
Action Thriller - Unlike most films featuring either Owen Wilson or Lake Bell in the
lead roles, this is not a comedy but a very intense and serious
dramatic thriller. Fans of Pierce Brosnan should note that he has a
smaller supporting role but is playing a familiar type part.
Language, violence, and generally harrowing subject matter make the
film much too intense for kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Very Good Too often, thrillers are packaged as safe, sanitary excursions into overblown action and special effects-enhanced stunts. No Escape is a throwback to an era when movies of this genre were defined by suspense and tension.
Roger EbertFull Review Very Poor ...a dreadful and creepily exploitative would-be thriller, low-grade trash that it is too silly and stupid to be as offensive as it frequently comes close to being throughout.
NY PostFull Review Good What keeps the movie nervy and kinetic is that, for a good hour, it never seems that Jack and family are anything but average people who somehow manage to survive one hellacious trial after another...
Rolling StoneFull Review Poor ...shamelessly risible and racist No Escape, the screwiest mix of suspense and stereotypes since Michael Bay was a pup. This movie really moves. But a fleet of tanks couldn't help the brothers Dowdle push past the plot holes in this rancid mess.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 63 moviegoers:
These moviegoer reviews are as mixed as those of the professional movie critics. Having seen this movie and enjoying it, I have no idea why some viewers didn't care for it. I found it very exciting and well done, as did many critics.
TEENS: One male loved it but the other two felt it was only an "average" movie. Same goes for the two ladies, one loved it and one thought it was an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable).
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: One male loved it, one rated it "above average" and one felt it was just "average." Both the females really enjoyed "No Escape."
ADULTS: The male reviews are great. Just over half loved it with about 20% more enjoying it very much. About 15% only rated it "average" with 10% rating it "Below average." The female reviews are similar but slightly lower. Still, a full 60% either loved "No Escape" or enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, about 30% were slightly disappointed and 10% were very disappointed.
