Taking place in a Manhattan apartment building, Max's life as a favorite pet is turned upside down, when his owner brings home a sloppy mongrel named Duke. Animated Comedy - While there is some mildly crude humor involving animals, this
animated comedy is aimed at the entire family, and most parents will
find this to be appropriate viewing for children. Fans of all the
voice actors, especially leads Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, and
Kevin Hart will have plenty to enjoy here.
Roger EbertFull Review Good ...it's too aggressively likable to hate—especially given its strong character design and excellent voice work—but simultaneously too shallow and forgettable to really register.
USA TodayFull Review Good The sheer number of crazy critters will keep the littlest audience members enthralled. The story meanders in spots, especially when Max's pals get embroiled in the chaos, but closes strong as the two figure out they're not just man's best friend but also each other's
NY PostFull Review Good The question is a source of endless entertainment and frustration for anyone with pets: What are they thinking? This simple premise, spun into a caper by the canny team behind "Despicable Me” and its hyperactive sequel, "Minions,” makes for a pretty amusing ride.
Rolling StoneFull Review Good ...an animated fluffball that does everything to drive you crazy and ends up by being totally irresistible. ...they know how to use this Toy Story with critters to get loads of laughs and put a lump in your throat.
