The first leg of the USS Enterprise's five year mission takes them into uncharted territory. There the Enterprise is nearly destroyed and strands Kirk and his crew on a remote planet with no means of communication. Kirk must then work with the elements to reunite his crew and get back to Earth.
Action Adventure Sci-Fi - Like both the various television series and films before it, this is
a science fiction adventure, but one doesn't need to be familiar with
nor a die-hard fan of the franchise to follow or enjoy it. Fans of
any one of the ensemble cast and the series will have plenty to
enjoy. Humor has been amped up slightly this time around. There is
some mild language and action violence, but most parents will find
this generally safe viewing for pre-teens and up. There are some
scary images and creatures that could upset the youngest of kids.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average When it comes to visual razzle-dazzle and directorial chicanery, it has nothing to be ashamed of.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average But in the end it's mostly a good big-budget sci-fi action movie that's been marinated in "Star Trek" flavor packets—and thus not terribly different from the 2009 "Star Trek" reboot or its sequel,...
USA TodayFull Review Above Average The galactic adventure might be an uneven one, but the combination of gravitas, a little mirth and old-school Trek themes makes Beyond a decently entertaining trip to the final frontier.
NY PostFull Review Below Average Fifty years on, the 'Star Trek' franchise is still fresh: It keeps coming up with new ways to suck.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 122 moviegoers:
(almost) GREAT REVIEWS! Over 50% loved "Star Trek: Beyond" with another 20%, or so, indicating that they enjoyed it very much. That means a full 80% were completely satisfied with this movie. These reviews are "almost" great because, unfortunately, 20% indicated that it was an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). "Average" isn't a bad review, it's just not great. Even those that only rated it "average" still indicated that they would recommend this movie to friends.
