On Thursday, January 15th, 2009, the world witnessed the "Miracle on the Hudson" when Captain, Chesley Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.
Drama - Unlike a lot of Clint Eastwood-directed films, this fact-based drama
moves fairly swiftly and clocks in at only a little only 90 minutes.
This is basically a one-man showcase for Tom Hanks, with other known
actors such as Aaron Eckhart and especially Laura Linney having only
very small supporting roles. There is some language and intense
plane landing sequences, but most parents will find this to be safe
for older pre-teens.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good The dramatization of the flight is Sully's most compelling slice of filmmaking. Knowing what happens ahead of time doesn't reduce the tension. A veteran director like Eastwood understands how to use audience expectations to the movie's benefit.
Roger EbertFull Review Good ...it will keep you fully engrossed, not easy when the central event in question lasted all of 208 seconds and everyone already knows the ending to this near-tragedy is a happy one. What exists outside of the rescue, which took a swift 24 minutes to complete, tends to be mildly engaging bordering on sedate.
NY PostFull Review Very Good ...this is a thrilling tribute to a modest hero who rose to an extraordinary occasion. As someone in a scene set some seven years after 9/11 remarks, "It's been a while since New York had news this good, especially with an airplane in it.”
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good The movie earns your attention and respect by digging deep, by finding the fear and self-doubt inside a man who'd never accept being defined as a hero. It's an eye-opener. ...pins you to your seat with high-tension scenes of flight and rescue.
