The continuing adventures of British publishing executive Bridget Jones as she enters her 40s.
Comedy Romantic - While being the first Bridget Jones not to be based on a
novel, this is, like the two previous films in the series, a
female-targeted, light romantic comedy with a bit of an R-rated edge
as far as language and subject matter, and so parents should be
warned. Fans of returning stars Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth and
series newcomer Patrick Dempsey should enjoy, but some fans may be
disappointed by original co-star Hugh Grant's absence.
PROFANITY: Over 30 F-words; 3 S-words; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: Brief sex and unrelated nudity. VIOLENCE: Comic falls and bites. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Frequent alcohol. ACTION: None. COMEDY: Constant banter, wisecracks, sight gags, often suggestive.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good Bridget Jones's Baby exceeds expectations and, as a result, makes us willing to forgive the delay in bringing the character back to theaters.
Roger EbertFull Review Good I take pleasure in announcing that this update on Bridget's always-complicated affairs of the heart is more often than not a bundle of joy to watch and a far cry from being a pail of poopy nappies. Bridget Jones was and is the original "Sex and the City” girl. And it is good to see her again.
USA TodayFull Review Good ...while it unabashedly leans into its chick-flick nature, returning director Sharon Maguire — who helmed 2001's franchise-starter Bridget Jones's Diary — manages to craft the strongest and funniest film of the series.
NY PostFull Review Above Average Still, enough laughs here to merit this gaffe-filled outing with Ms. Jones. Might venture yet another alternate title: "Bridget Jones: Quit While You're Ahead.”
