Christian is more affinity for numbers than people. He works as a freelance accountant for some of the world's most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department's Crime Enforcement Division starting to close in, he takes on a legitimate client: a
robotics company where an accounting clerk has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars.
Crime Drama Thriller - This action drama is more of the latter than the former, with a lot
less mayhem and a much slower pace than the previews would suggest.
All the same, there is a fair share of brutal violence, and that plus
constant language make the film not for kids. Ben Affleck fans will
enjoy his change of pace role, while fans of Anna Kendrick may be
disappointed by her very limited screen time.
Roger EbertFull Review Average And then it goes south. It goes very far south, with two plot reveals that are among the most ludicrous that I've experienced in quite some time. The worse of the two twists is made genuinely hilarious by the cutaways to Lithgow watching things unfold on his home security cam monitors and looking in disbelief—echoing the likely expressions of the audience.
USA TodayFull Review Good ...where The Accountant really succeeds is exploring the emotions and coping mechanisms of a protagonist on the autism spectrum, plot points not often seen in the macho action genre.
NY PostFull Review Average Thrillers can be a valid Hollywood escape, but this one made me as uncomfortable as its hero is with small talk. If you're going to make the first mainstream movie about autism since "Rain Man,” maybe don't feature an anti-hero who's highly adept at shooting people in the head.
Rolling StoneFull Review Poor Ben Affleck's Ridiculous, WTF Thriller Doesn't Add Up. The last third of the film, where the explanations come, degenerates into pure camp, evoking other synonyms for preposterous – my favorites being silly, senseless and effing stupid.
