In 1942, an intelligence officer in North Africa encounters a female French Resistance fighter on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. When they reunite in London, their relationship is tested by the pressures of war.
Action Drama Romantic - Despite the action-leaning angle of the advertising, this is a more
slowly paced dramatic thriller with a more intimate scale than the
WWII-era setting would imply. Fans of leads Brad Pitt and Marion
Cotillard will enjoy this tightly focused showcase for the two of
them. Violence, language, sexual content, and adult themes make the
film not for kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good More a spy thriller than a traditional "war film”... ...two hours of solid entertainment with attractive leads, exotic locations, and large dollops of romance and suspense... Allied isn't a great film, but it's made with sufficient care and skill that it deserves to be seen.
Roger EbertFull Review Excellent While it may not quite be the modern-day "Casablanca,” it is nevertheless a grandly entertaining stab at old-fashioned storytelling....buoyed by smart and stylish filmmaking, a good performance by Brad Pitt and an even better one from Marion Cotillard.
USA TodayFull Review Average Zemeckis keeps the main mystery taut until the end, though not enough is seeded in the movie's first half, and the watchable war-torn romance of the beginning falls apart gradually. Unfortunately, unlike its two main characters, those key aspects never marry to become an Allied unit.
NY PostFull Review Average "Allied” is one of those not-so-good movies that I enjoyed for the lushness of it all, the immaculate nightclubs and the buzzing air raids. ..."Allied” is slow-footed and tepid, its plot twists dopey and soapy. I was rooting for things to get interesting, but I would have settled for a few surprises.
