WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.
Drama Romantic War - This fact-based WWII movie is extremely violent like much of the
directing work of Mel Gibson, but its inspirational true story and
lead character will likely give it a wider audience than a lot of war
movies. The strong element of faith will give this a lot of appeal
to Christian audiences. Fans of Andrew Garfield will enjoy this
major starring showcase. Other recognizable faces such as Vince
Vaughn, Hugo Weaving, and Teresa Palmer have only fairly small roles.
The extreme violence and some strong language make the film not for

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good Hacksaw Ridge embraces many of the clichés of the war movie but, instead of laying them out in a rote fashion, the film synthesizes them into a visceral, ultimately inspirational result. This is about heroism, patriotism, and an adherence to convictions...
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average This film is inept and beautiful, stupid and amazing. It doesn't have the words or images to express how deep it is. That's why it's more interesting to talk about than it is to watch. I wonder what the real Doss, who died in 2006, would have thought of it.
USA TodayFull Review Good ...stunning military drama ... Brutally intense and elegantly crafted, the film showcases the stellar acting chops of Andrew Garfield and Vince Vaughn, and it's director Mel Gibson's best work behind the scenes since 1995's Oscar best-picture winner Braveheart.
NY PostFull Review Good "Hacksaw” does occasionally lurch into cliché... This middling midsection takes far too long but does provide an extra layer of meaning to events on Okinawa... Gibson stages these battle scenes with a nauseating effectiveness....that makes for some of the year's most gripping cinematic images.
