Looking for any way to get out of town Tripp a high school senior, builds a Monster Truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. After an accident at a nearby oil-drilling site displaces a strange and subterranean creature with a taste and a talent for speed, Tripp may have a way out of town and a most unlikely friend.
Animated Action Adventure - This is a science fiction action adventure comedy aimed at families,
especially young kids. There is no objectionable language nor
graphic violence, but there may be some scenes considered scary for
the very youngest of children, and there is one crude gross-out gag
that some parents may find inappropriate. Lucas Till is the lead,
veteran actors such as Danny Glover and Rob Lowe only appearing in
very small roles.
PROFANITY: None. SEX/NUDITY: Fleeting partial male rear nudity for laughs. VIOLENCE: Hits and falls by people and creatures. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Brief alcohol. ACTION: Chases on foot and by truck. COMEDY: Silly banter, wisecracks, sight gags, physical gags.
Roger EbertFull Review Average When "Monster Trucks" finally unleashes its crash-bang-boom chase of a grand finale that somehow seems both overly violent and yet benign, it's a relief that it isn't silly or stupid.
Slant MagazineFull Review Poor This is a film that pushes its female characters to the sidelines as if they had cooties, cartoonishly admonishing Big Oil while hypocritically fetishizing the gas-guzzling appetite of a cute and cuddly machine-creature hybrid.
