Action Crime Thriller - As with the most recent entries of this long-running series, this
eighth installment is a very over-the-top action-adventure--though
fans of the racing element that defined this series at the start may
be disappointed by how that's very much a side issue now, as this is
now more of a general team mission to literally save the world from a
maniacal villain. Vin Diesel is again the focal star though this
really is generally an ensemble team story, so fans of the other
stars such as Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and
new villain Charlize Theron will also enjoy. Language and some
intense action scenes make the film of caution to parents of young
children though the violence never gets overly bloody or graphic.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average The Fate of the Furious has a less credible story than the average Scooby Doo episode, as much sentiment as one might find in a Road Runner short, and intelligent dialogue to match the animated Pink Panther. "Dumbing down” was coined for productions like this...
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average "The Fate of the Furious” distinctly drops the level of quality in this series for the first time this decade. ...relatively enjoyable when compared to other hollow blockbusters but relatively disappointing when compared to the high points of this series.
USA TodayFull Review Good As an adrenaline-fueled popcorn movie, Fate doesn't disappoint. It's unapologetically big, brash and loud, and more than Furious enough to satiate those whose inner child still lights up at the sight of an orange Lamborghini cruising on thin ice.
NY PostFull Review Average As always, it's characters, not plot, that fuel "F&F.” Gibson is MVP of banter with his beta-guy shtick, while Statham wins the prize for best (and I'm pretty sure only) gun- and fistfight on an airplane while carrying a car-seat-strapped baby.
