High school outcasts stumble upon an old alien ship, where they acquire superpowers and are dubbed the Power Rangers. Learning that an old enemy of the previous generation has returned to exact vegenance, the group must harness their powers and use them to work together and save the world.
Action Adventure Sci-Fi - This is a lavish, effects-heavy update/reboot of the long-running
children's science fiction adventure television series, but the
appeal of this film goes beyond that demographic to a more general
superhero action movie audience. As such, unlike the TV series, the
film is not as friendly to the very young, and parental discretion is
advised due to some language, disturbing imagery, teen drinking, as
well as one of
the teen heroes identifying as gay. The target audience is younger
adults in general.
PROFANITY: 5 S-words; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Fights between humans, robots, and monsters with minimal blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some teen drinking. ACTION: Fights, explosions, destruction. COMEDY: Silly banter, wisecracks, sight gags.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average Loud, trashy, sweet and weird, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot "Power Rangers” is not merely an ideal film for rambunctious and undemanding 12-year olds, it actually sees the world through their eyes.
USA TodayFull Review Average Anybody who screamed "Go, go, Power Rangers!” as a kid will find all their favorite things still here, and the movie is a serviceable introduction to a new generation who want to check out cinematic superheroes without "Marvel” in the credits.
Slant MagazineFull Review Below Average The film is so concerned with launching a mature teen-targeted franchise that it often forgets to have some fun.
