series. As in the previous four films, Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush
star, but original co-stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley also
appear after being absent in the fourth, albeit briefly. Language is

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average It's fast paced but goes nowhere new and the film's "bigness” makes it hard to remember what an amazingly unexpected treasure The Curse of the Black Pearl was. Call this an adequate but ultimately forgettable summer movie and move on to the next one…
Roger EbertFull Review Average Much of the two-hour-plus running time is eaten up by elaborate stunt-filled centerpieces. ...Depp's tipsy high-jinks at half-mast in the funny department these days... The most ridiculous though satisfying sequence involves Sparrow's entrance that could double as a metaphor for the entire movie.
USA TodayFull Review Good ...Disney's buccaneer-filled franchise rights the ship with fifth installment Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales... ...has its rocky moments but also offers an engaging tale with family legacies, above-average swashbuckling and a fantastic new villain courtesy of Javier Bardem.
Slant MagazineFull Review Very Poor ...wholly lacks the lighthearted spark and demented creativity that made Gore Verbinski's original three films so much fun. ...the Pirates of the Caribbean series is cursed to unnatural life, the sort that extends soullessly beyond the point of death.
