A teen girl discovers a magical box that will grant her seven wishes. As she uses her wishes for personal gain, bad things begin to happen to those around her. She discovers an evil entity lives inside the box and may be behind the gruesome deaths.
Fantasy Horror Thriller - This is a supernatural horror film aimed at teens,
especially girls, and while the bloodshed is within
PG-13 levels, there are disturbing and brutal moments
of violence that are too intense for kids, so parents
be warned, as well as be aware of some language and
teen sensuality. Young Joey King is the lead, with
known older actors such as Ryan Phillippe in smaller
PROFANITY: 1 F-word; 2 S-words; a number of others. SEX/NUDITY: Brief clothed sensuality between teens. VIOLENCE: Fights, hard hits, neck cracks, impalings, falls with moderate blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol. ACTION: A big fight between two teen girls. COMEDY: Darkly humorous situations.
Roger EbertFull Review Poor The best thing you can say about it is that the acting is alright, there are a few decently executed moments of nastiness, the whole thing is in focus and you can understand what's being said. The violent scenes might play as outrageous, in midnight movie fashion, if the direction were capable of putting an intention, any intention, across.
Rex ReedFull Review Poor Like Claire, and possibly the producers, I wish I'd never seen this movie. Fortunately for me (and those sacrificial lambs nearest and dearest), that desire will never be granted. ...plays like a work of nihilistic pulp condescending to its audience by portending a greater sense of social awareness than it has any real interest in taking seriously.
Slant MagazineFull Review Below Average Almost none of the deaths in Wish Upon have any thematic connection to the main character's wishes. With no moral weight in any of Clare's actions, the only wish that ends up satisfyingly granted is, in the final and utterly predictable tableau, the audience's.
