Storyline Heading
Parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet - in her own family home.
.
Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Thriller - Like the most recent installment of the film series in 2015, this supernatural horror thriller is a prequel to the original 2011 film, focusing on Lin Shaye's psychic medium character. While the film is rated PG-13 and language is minimal, there are moments of disturbing violence and a number of scary images that are too intense for kids, so parents are warned.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Average The production provides an early-year fix for PG-13 horror junkies but isn't sufficiently interesting, original, or scary to warrant attention from anyone outside that group. Insidious fans with low expectations will get what they want from this prequel and that's all the franchise needs to keep rolling.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Above Average So yes, "The Last Key" is still rather ... limited in its appeal. But it's also good enough to feature a momentarily clever twist (if you don't overthink it), and it's got a couple of good fake-outs.

Slant Magazine Full Review
Poor The fourth film in the Insidious franchise, directed by Adam Robitel, is lazy and sometimes even loathsome.

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 44 moviegoers:
TEENS: Three males loved it, two enjoyed it very much and one felt it was an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). As with most horror movies there were a couple who didn't enjoy it. As is typical, the ladies enjoyed this horror movie more than the guys by quite a wide margin. Eight of the ten females indicated that they LOVED "INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY." The ninth female enjoyed it very much, with just one rating it low.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: Three males loved it, two enjoyed it very much and one felt it was an "average" movie. Like the teen females, this group of ladies also enjoyed the movie more than the males. Three of the ladies loved it and three indicated that they enjoyed it very much, rating it "above average."
ADULTS: This is apparently not a movie enjoyed by some adults. Just one of the five males loved it with another one enjoying it very much. Unfortunately, the remaining three felt it was only an "average" movie, with one rating it "below average." The female reviews are very similar. Three loved it, one enjoyed it very much, three rated it average and two rated it "poor."
