OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 27 moviegoers:
TEENS: One female loved it and one rated it just "average."
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: The two males loved "Just Getting Started."
ADULTS: Approximately 40% of both the males and females either loved "Just Getting Started" or enjoyed it very much and rated it "above average." Another 20% to 30% felt it was an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). Unfortunately, nearly 40% of the males and 35% of the females rated it just "fair," which is a pretty low review. Very few movies receive this high a percentage of "fair" reviews. Even though this movie has several major stars, it's not a story that most moviegoers enjoyed very much.

D ETAILED S TORYLINE
Although Christmas comes but once a year, for the lucky residents of the Villa Capri, it's pretty much Christmas every day-thanks to the tireless efforts of their smooth operator, resident manager with a past, Duke Diver (Morgan Freeman). The exclusive Palm Springs resort is home to a group of men and women who are done with careers and nuclear families-their sole aim is now to enjoy life, and Duke is there to ensure that the fun level stays way above the norm.

Duke's rule of the roost is unquestioned, and as Christmas nears, he is making sure that the holiday season dawns as festive, colorful and boozy. But, the animals slated for the living Nativity aren't the only things to arrive on the Villa's doorstep. When new charmer in town Leo (Tommy Lee Jones) checks in, Duke's place at the top of the food chain is immediately threatened by the truckdriving cowboy poet/ex-military entrepreneur. The two are soon engaged in a good-natured bout of one-upmanship, which quickly devolves into an out-andout battle for Alpha Male dominance once the alluring Suzie (Rene Russo) also turns up-regrettably, as a watchdog for the Villa's corporate owners, who have some concerns with Duke and his administrative style.

Although he continues to dodge a managerial clamp-down, no amount of Duke's slick maneuvering can keep his past from becoming his present. Turns out, Duke was once known as "Sweet Willie," an attorney in service to the Bruno crime family, who later turned state's evidence to guarantee his new identity and life in Witness Protection. Now, it's clear that someone is out to settle the score, and the only way for Duke/Willie to live through it-and keep Villa Capri as the paradise he's created-is to team up with his macho rival, Leo, whose own past combat experience comes in handy once things like exploding golf carts start to happen.
