When a tightly knit group of friends embark upon their last undergraduate getaway and engage in a harmless game of "Truth or Dare," the game follows them home, forcing them to play or face the deadly consequences.
Horror Thriller - This is a horror thriller aimed squarely at teens and young adults.
Fans of Lucy Hale will enjoy. While bearing a PG-13 rating,
language, scary moments, constant alcohol, and some sexual content
make the film not for kids.
PROFANITY: 1 F-word; 7 S-words; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: Brief sex without nudity. VIOLENCE: Stabbings, falls, shootings with minimally seen blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Frequent alcohol. ACTION: Earthquake with mild destruction. COMEDY: Some comic lines and situations, often dark and sometimes suggestive.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Poor ...a godawful teen-magnet utterly devoid of entertainment value beyond the lure of its popular, photogenic cast and the dubious attraction of playing the "guess who gets it next” game. The little bit of cleverness that ends the film comes far too late to save this movie.
Roger EbertFull Review Average "Blumhouse's Truth or Dare" is closer to its title company's more formulaic horror films, but at times, its creators seem to struggle to say something more. Then the moment passes, and Wadlow's film goes back to being a slasher movie whose cruelty only ostensibly serves as a form of fatherly kindness.
Slant MagazineFull Review Below Average ...a startlingly mean-spirited but otherwise dimwitted horror film... ...overwhelmingly, a silly horror flick that's unconcerned with its silliness. ...every once in a while there are flashes of the delicious darkness that one wishes Truth or Dare had embraced more often.
NewsdayFull Review Above Average ...a nimble little horror-chiller that makes the most of a simple premise: What if a children's game became a matter of life and death?

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 27 moviegoers:
TEENS: Two males loved it, but four felt it was only an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). The ladies enjoyed it quite a bit more than the guys. Just over half loved "Truth or Dare." About 10% more enjoyed it very much. It's a little disappointing that nearly 40% felt it was only an "average" movie.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: Two of the three females loved it, but the third one rated it "below average."
ADULTS: All the males enjoyed it very much as did two of the three females.
