As a young New York couple goes from college romance to marriage and the birth of their first child, the unexpected twists of their journey create reverberations that echo over continents and through lifetimes.
Drama Romantic - This is a tearjerking ensemble drama in the vein of writer/director
Dan Fogelman's hit television series This Is Us. Of the cast,
Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, and Antonio Banderas have the most
substantial roles. A large portion of the film is in Spanish with
subtitles. Constant language, violence, and adult themes
make the film not for kids.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good I appreciated the care with which the characters are developed and the respect accorded to their circumstances. There are a lot of nice little touches...and, although the movie's strength occurs early in the proceedings, it tells a story worth being told.
Roger EbertFull Review Below Average "Life Itself” loads up plot line on top of plot line to imitate emotional depth, a kind of narrative manipulation that just doesn't work for everyone. Ultimately, "Life Itself” plays like a soap opera squeezed into two hours. Some people will like it...
USA TodayFull Review Below Average ...a real downer when it comes to death: A few are so out-of-nowhere that it's like the hipster version of the "Game of Thrones” Red Wedding. The movie does introduce intriguing thematic aspects...though they unfortunately get buried under the weight of everything Fogelman tries to shoehorn into two hours
Rolling StoneFull Review Terrible ...the melodrama goes thunderously wrong from the very first scene, steadily getting worse before going up in a hellish blaze of gross incompetence, crass tear-jerking, unrelenting tragedy porn, unearned self-congratulation and leaden dialogue that hits you like a blunt force trauma.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 16 moviegoers:
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: The one male and one female enjoyed "Life Itself" very much.
ADULTS: Two males loved it, two enjoyed it very much and one rated it "good/average" (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). The females reviews are more varied. Two loved it, two enjoyed it very much, three rated it "good/average" and two hated it, which certainly isn't good and is quite unusual. So, chances are you will enjoy this movie at least to some degree, but it's a bit of a risk.
