When Eddie Brock acquires the powers of a symbiote, he will have to release his alter-ego "Venom" to save his life.
Action Sci-Fi Thriller - This is an effects-heavy action-adventure centered around the
Spider-Man villain, but fans should know that the film neither
features any reference to Spider-Man nor does it have any connection
to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans of star Tom Hardy will
definitely enjoy this rare look at his more comedic side though
Michelle Williams fans will be disappointed
by her very limited role. Language, violence, and some scary images
make the film not for young kids.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Average With its short length and jokey tone, the movie feels more like a second-rate knock-off than a legitimate attempt to start a franchise for the Jekyll and Hyde symbiotic title character. To the extent that Venom works, it's as a comedy not an action/adventure superhero film.
Roger EbertFull Review Average ... a tonally wonky lark that's actually stronger when it's sillier. It's a mess, but a fun mess—at least for a while. "Venom” is right there on the edge of what you can get away with and still maintain a PG-13 rating, in that it features massive amounts of carnage, gunfire and destruction, but no bloodshed.
Rolling StoneFull Review Poor ...puddle of simplistic, sanitized PG-13 drivel that Marvel has released instead of the scary, dark-night-of-the-soul thunderbolt fans had the right to expect. Crudely directed by Ruben Fleischer (remember the bliss of Zombieland?) from an aggressively blockheaded script...
Slant MagazineFull Review Poor ...an astonishingly rushed and inconsistently aestheticized reintroduction to one of Spider-Man's more famous adversaries. ...the film cuts out all but the most purposeful scenes of plot, making Venom feel less developed than he might have been...
