The story behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. A visceral and intimate account told from Armstrong's perspective.
Drama - This is a drama based on the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong and the
events leading up to the first moon landing. Fans of Ryan Gosling
will enjoy this big showcase. All other familiar actors in the cast,
including Claire Foy, have much smaller roles. There is some mild
language, adult themes about a child dying, and some scary moments
with spacecraft mishaps, but most families will find this safe
viewing for pre-teens and up.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good For those who can get past the shaky-cam aspect that infects the cinematography, this is an involving look back in time at one of the most significant human endeavors of the last century. It's not definitive but it is welcome.
Roger EbertFull Review Good The objective seems to be to make you feel, by the end, as if you've walked a million miles in Neil Armstrong's boots. On that score, judged solely as a spectacle, "First Man" has to be considered a success...
USA TodayFull Review Good From a technical standpoint, "First Man” wows in almost every aspect. ...with close-ups and shaky-cam work, the filmmaker puts you in an astronaut's helmet as much as he can... "First Man” has its challenges, though you're apt to forget them once Armstrong reaches the moon, a brilliantly captured movie moment...
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good ...the abundant factors that make First Man unmissable and unforgettable. There have been astronaut movies before, good (Apollo 13) and better (The Right Stuff). But few have been as much a triumph of the imagination fueled, not by FX but by indelible feeling, as this one.
