Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family's past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what's worth fighting for, and discover that nothing's more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can't escape your history.
Drama - This sequel to the hit 2015 spinoff of the Rocky series is
another crowd-pleasing boxing film. Fans of Michael B. Jordan and
Sylvester Stallone will be pleased, but fans of returning Rocky
IV co-star Dolph Lundgren may be disappointed by his limited
screen time. Brutal, bloody boxing matches and some language make
the film not for young kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Average ...mired in clichés with a narrative constrained by a bland and generic structure. Everything you think is going to happen in Creed II probably happens because the movie isn't trying to be original. By playing things too safe, it loses the power and spontaneity that gave Creed its energy and drive.
Roger EbertFull Review Good ...it's bigger, louder and more grandiose than its predecessor—yet manages to right itself by not losing focus on the humanity of its central characters. Jordan brings such love to playing Donnie that, despite my fears that this franchise may eventually beget something as bad as "Rocky V,” I look forward to its continuation.
USA TodayFull Review Good ...doesn't have the same rousing magic as the last chapter, it offers intriguing parallel plots of fathers and sons trying to find redemption after loss. If the original "Creed” was a straight-up knockout from bell to bell, the sequel takes its time with body blows – from all directions – to ultimately get you right in the feels.
NY PostFull Review Good ...a worthy successor to the original "Rocky” spinoff. Jordan continues to impress, navigating the emotional territory of the movie better than Stallone ever did. Once the gloves are on, though, Jordan's a man-beast. Not surprisingly, it's Adonis and Viktor's awesome, wince-worthy fights that give "Creed II” its punch.
