Six strangers find themselves in circumstances beyond their control, and must use their wits to survive.
Drama Mystery Sci-Fi - This is a thriller aimed primarily at young adult moviegoers. While
rated PG-13, and there is no graphic gore, there is frequent
profanity plus a number of intense sequences too strong for young
kids. There are some familiar but not hugely known names in the
cast, such as actors known for television roles, such as Jay Ellis
and Deborah Ann Woll.
PROFANITY: 2 F-words; over 30 S-words; 14 GD's; a number of others. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Fights, struggles with some blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Alcohol, including by teens; tobacco. ACTION: A big fight. COMEDY: Darkly comic lines.
Roger EbertFull Review Average ...a sometimes diverting, but overly familiar series of set pieces in search of a good melodrama. There's not much of a plot: six disposable protagonists try to solve a series of inter-connected puzzles, and death is the penalty for failure.
USA TodayFull Review Average It was inevitable that "Escape Room”...would be a bad movie. The premise ("Find the clues or die”) is too obvious, too easy, for anyone with real ambition to want to run with it. But at least it could have been fun-bad, not just boring-bad.
NY PostFull Review Below Average It's not asking much that a thriller be scary or shocking. This one waffles between being predictable and absurd. I won't spoil the groaner of an ending. Let's just say you'll be pleased to escape.
